Introducing...

Miss Vivienne Dianne Gentry
Born December 21, 2013
@ 3:25 a.m.
Weight: 8 lbs 9 oz.
Length: 21 inches

Little Vivienne looks just like her big brother with exception for her long fingers and toes.  It was a difficult process getting her here, but she is absolutely worth it!

Big brother is happy to have baby sister here, but is still learning that babies cannot be lifted up by their arms or be smothered in blankets (they really are not all that much fun if you are five years old).

Mom loves dressing up her little sparrow.
Daddy is completely smitten with his little lady.

More details on her birth story to come....

An end in sight

The end of what seems like a VERY long journey is just hours away.  It is hard to believe that I will finally be holding my baby girl, and our family will be complete.  The aches and pains in my body coupled with my Christmas morning like excitement is clearly not allowing me to sleep, but somehow this early morning I'm okay with that.

Christian and I tried to get pregnant for 11 months this time around; it was such a quick process with my little guy that I assumed it would be a similar situation the second time around.  I was sorely wrong. Those eleven months of trying were hard; its difficult to want something so bad and not be able to have it when you want it.  We were so happy when we finally conceived this little one.

This pregnancy has been so drastically different than my previous one.  I was so sick the first trimester, which made working quite difficult.  I also don't remember the exhaustion to the level it was this time around.  It's amazing just how tired I was each and every day.  It was all I could do to pull myself out of bed and get to work; all my energy went into getting through the work day with a smile on my face.  I was a bad mom those three months, having little to no energy to spend with my little guy.  We watched a lot of movies and shows on Netflix and I counted down the minutes to bedtime daily.

Thankfully there was an end to the first trimester hell, but with it came severe sciatica.  I did have this with Berkeley but not to the extent I had it this time around.  It crippled me from running at 3 1/2 months which was a pretty devastating blow.  I continued to exercise how I could but it was no where near what I needed mentally or physically.  I had to accept that this was also temporary and that I would be gaining weight that I didn't want, but it was going to be fine.  Luckily I know that I am an amazing person regardless of my weight and I have the confidence that I can attain goals related to health in the future.  I started seeing a chiropractor which was quite pricey, but without it I would have been unable to move.  It helped a lot and the last two months of my pregnancy, my pain was at a minimum and I was able to move without problems easily.

The third trimester came with its own set of challenges.  I always find it difficult learning how to deal with this new body that is so big and limiting.  Trying to play with Berkeley took on new challenges and sleeping really started to be a problem.  Most nights I was up for a good two hour stretch during the middle of the night and found it difficult to find any position to get comfortable.  The fatigue began to set in again and the whole "pregnancy brain"  became a very real thing yet again.  This came at a terrible time as I was in the mist of a job change and I felt like my memory made me look like an idiot all too often to my new co-workers.  I did however, find joy in all the movement of this little lady; she has been so much more active than her big brother ever was.  It has been nice to know that she is already such a lively little lady.

Near the end of my pregnancy my body became so worn down; I could feel way more aches and pains after my long work days.  I had hoped to work until the little lady came, but my body was telling me it had other plans.  While I planned to have this baby early, as most women follow the pattern of their first baby, this baby had other plans.  Berke was 2 weeks early, so I was ready at Thanksgiving to have this sweet babe.  I kept waiting and still nothing.  Here I sit, a week late and still have not had any major contractions.

I have learned that pregnancy kicked my butt!  It is really hard and I have so much respect for women who have more than 1 or 2 children.  I will be honest, I don't like being pregnant, it is not something I hope to do again.  But I will also say, that the gift that is about to be given after such a long hard road is totally going to be worth it.

Yesterday as we had our last "late" ultrasound I saw my little girl sucking her thumb so clearly.  It brought tears to my eyes and helped me remember why I have sacrificed all that I have.  I really do love being a mom!  I cannot wait to have another sweet child to take care of, to love and to share life with.  I am so incredibly lucky and blessed to be able to have carried this baby, and even though it was hard, it really is going to be worth it!

I now sit at my computer at this early hour, waiting for my family to wake up so I can begin working on the last of my nesting projects.  I will be going into the hospital this evening to be induced.  I am feeling scared, terrified of labor, excited to have my body back, looking forward to sleeping on my stomach, terrified of the pain of breast feeding again, exciting to hold and kiss this little baby, to see what she looks like, to watch Christian cry like a baby as he holds her for the first time, there are so many emotions (no wonder I cannot sleep)!

I am thankful for all the support I have been given my family and friend during this entire process.  Without the love, support and encouragement I would be insane at this point.  I cannot wait to introduce everyone to our baby girl this week!  Stay tuned, the best is yet to come.

Berkeley's first field trip- Drumlin Farm

I was easily guilt tripped by my four year old to go on his first field trip with him.  When he started crying because I wasn't going with him because I had to work, I quickly changed my plans, and ended up waddling my 37 week pregnant body around Drumlin Farm with thirty-two 3-5 year olds.
I really am glad I ended up going and got to spend this special time with my buddy.  Although it was completely exhausting, it was so adorable to interact with Berke and all his little preschool friends.  They are (for the most part) the sweetest group of kids and just wanted to hold my hand, hug me, show me the animals and tell me how much they loved me.
It was a cold day at the farm, but all the kids had fun and fell asleep on the bus ride back to school.  I love B's little preschool and glad he is growing and learning so much there!

My little man

My little man is growing up too fast.  I cannot believe he is almost 5!  He is very excited to turn 5 years old, and seems to feel that turning five means he is turning a corner into big boy land.  He keeps talking about how when he is five he can do this, that and the other.

He has become quite the helper lately, he always wants to help dad out in the kitchen, and helped make pumpkin and pecan pie this year for Thanksgiving.  He also asks if he can help with the dishes.  The other day I told him he had to start doing chores around the house to earn his keep.  His response was, "Are you joking?"  He helped his dad clean the bathroom and helped me sweep.  During bathroom cleaning he said, "Mom, chores are fun!" I'm pretty sure I have a keeper here; hopefully he never loses his enthusiasm for cleaning the bathroom!

I am excited to see him help out with his baby sister; he is excited for her to be here and is already making her soup in his kitchen that he thinks she will like.  He told me he is practicing his baking so he can open his bake shop called "Baking-Soda" which I thought was pretty clever.

Berkeley has such a vivid imagination.  His absolute favorite thing to do is to tell or hear stories.  Anytime any event happens in life he can be found asking, "Tell me the story about that."  I have quickly found that I can make up the most stupid and unrealistic stories on earth, but he still loves them.  I am lucky enough to make up a story every morning on the way to preschool.  When at home Berkeley can often be found playing with random things (see picture below) and making up stories.  This carrot golf club and my bathrobe tie are two of his favorite toys right now. This kid is constantly cracking me up.
Berkeley has struggled with sensory issues his entire life, but the last year and a half has made some huge strides to overcome these.  Getting his hands dirty and loud sounds are two of the hardest things for him.  He refuses to do any painting at preschool and has been terrified of finger painting since the first time he did it at 18 months old.  This weekend I talked him into doing some Christmas finger painting; he agreed after much persuasion and a guarantee that I would wash his hands as soon as we were done.  He reluctantly agreed; when the paint was put onto the plate he started freaking out, but eventually put his hands in it and laughed about how cold and squishy was.  He lasted for about 5 minutes with the finger paints before he was done and wanted to be cleaned up, but it was a HUGE deal!  I was so proud of him for trying, he did a fantastic job!
We didn't have the same luck trying to talk him into going to see 150 Tubas play a Christmas concert downtown.  He threw himself on the ground when we tried to talk to him about going. "It's too loud!" he cried and we decided it was not worth the effort.  At the end of the day he asked, "When are we doing to the tuba concert?" I told him we were not going to go because of how much he cried, to which he smugly said, with a smirk on his face, "Oh yeah, this was the perfect day!"

My sweet boy is a sensitive little soul.  Tonight we watched Home Alone together; he loved the entire movie, but in the end after the police took away the "bad guys" he started to cry and said, "What about his family mom?" Soon after in the movie his mom returned and then his entire family.  I look over to see Berkeley crying like a baby and sweetly trying to wipe the tears with his hands reaching under his glasses (quite possibly the cutest thing ever).  I reached out and held his hand and then we hugged while he cried some more.  He was so concerned that Kevin's family wouldn't return, how flipping cute is that for a 4 year old?

I really love this sweet, sensitive and hilarious boy!  My life is so full because of him.

It's a girl!

My lovely and talented friends, Aubrey, Bonnie, Leslie and Courtney threw me a lovely shower to celebrate the upcoming arrival of baby girl. I am often in awe of the skills my friends have to throw such beautiful and breathtaking parties.  So many friends contributed by bringing the most delicious food for a luncheon.  I am blessed that so many women are willing to do such sweet and kind things for me.  I am forever grateful for the loving friends who have become our family in New England.

I just loved the painted pumpkins and the lovely fall flowers.  The mason jars were perfect for the warm apple cider.  Courtney even made caramel apples from scratch!
The food was amazing, with these ladies in charge, you never have to worry about a bad spread of food.

Just some pumpkin chocolate cheesecake squares, pumpkin mousse and gingersnaps for dessert.

So many wonderful friends were in attendance to support me; I'm one lucky lady.
Baby girl was rather spoiled with adorable clothes, sweet homemade blankets, a diaper bag, a wonderful supply of diapers and wipes.  I think we are just about set for this little gal to debut! Only 4 more weeks until the due date (but we are not so secretly hoping for an early arrival, perhaps she will show up on Thanksgiving like her mom decided to do 33 years ago!)

Family and friends all wrote things they were excited for baby girl to experience on these leave and they were attached to this beautiful tree and framed for her room.  It is such a sweet gift that I will forever treasure.

Thank you again to everyone who helped with the shower and to all those who attended and brought Baby "Ginger" Gentry so many wonderful gifts from the heart.  I love you all!

We did it!

We did it!  We made it through Halloween without any problems.  We managed to find time to carve a pumpkin, decorate the house spooky enough for Berke's approval, Halloween cartoons were watched and Trick-O-Treating was enjoyable by all who attended.
Berke and his little buddy Q always seem to be on the same page for costumes, last year they were Woody and Buzz from Toy Story and this year they were Iron man and Iron Patriot (aka Iron Man 3 according to Berke).
 We did it!
We stayed up for all the World Series Games that started at 8 p.m. EST and what you know, the RED SOX won!!!
 We did it!
Christian and I managed to escape as a couple for one last trip to Walden Pond, and after 6 years of swimming in Walden Pond, we finally walked around the entire thing.  What a beautiful Fall walk; the colors were amazing and beautiful and the scenery was so peaceful and pleasant.
We even saw a beaver just taking in the last of the warm sun before it's too chilly to enjoy.  Isn't he chubby and adorable?
This was the spot Thoreau's cabin used to be, 200 ft or so from the pond.

A MONSTER MASH

The annual Donigard Halloween Party is always something everyone looks forward to.  Our friends don't joke around when it comes to costumes and it always great to see what new things people come up with every year.  This year there was no disappointments in the costume department.

Thanks to Kate and Bonnie who put tons of work into this party; they always make sure it looks amazing and everyone has a good time!
 Medusa and Perseus
 The Crew from Magnus PI
 Meet the Flinstones

Violet and Agustus from Willie Wanka and the Chocolate Factory
 Calvin and Hobbs
 Vampires
 Mackintosh and Granny Smith
Sheldon and Amy from Big Bang Theory
Country Bumpkin Junkies
A conversation heart and a painting?
I was pretty proud of our costumes this year.  Christian was out of town at a conference so Berke and I rocked it as Ralphie and the leg lamp from A Christmas Story.  I am happy to report we won the "Funniest Costume" Award, last year Christian and I brought home the "Scariest Costume" award so we can rock both extremes which I am pretty proud of.
This kid totally looks like Ralphie!  The cuteness of him in this costume kills me.
Here is my little bunny and his friend the Spider Charlotte from Charlotte's Web.

Happy Halloween!
